Ready. Set. Write! {2015}

It’s that time again…

RSW2

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that encourages goal-setting and accountability, and provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at with our writing projects—planning, drafting, revising, or polishing.  This year, your RSW hosts are Alison MillerJaime MorrowErin FunkElodie Nowodazkij, and myself.

(Testimonial: Last summer I fully revised a previously finished manuscript, and wrote about 70K words of a new manuscript, completing it just before RSW closed. Accountability works!)

Ready. Set. Write! will kick off with an initial goal-setting post on Monday, June 8th, with the first check-in on Monday, June 15th, and subsequent check-ins each Monday throughout the summer. RSW will conclude on August 31st.

Here are the headings we’ll be using:

1.  How I did on last week’s goals.

2.  My goal(s) for this week.

3.  A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised.

4.  The biggest challenge I faced this week (ex. finding time to write).

5.  Something I love about my WiP.

**As mentioned, Week #1 will only be goal setting.**

Accountability and goal setting are super important, but we don’t want RSW to detract from writing, which is, of course, the whole point of this summer intensive. With respect to our weekly check-in posts, THE BRIEFER THE BETTER. Your hosts will be limiting their answers for each heading to 2-3 lines at most, and we encourage you to do the same. (Save the words for the WiPs!)

Each Monday there will be a linky sign-up on all of the host blogs. Leave the link to your check-in post, hop around to other participants’ blogs, and spread encouragement like sunscreen. (This is a summer writing intensive after all. ☼)

Stay tuned for info on giveaways and be sure to watch Twitter for spontaneous #RSW writing parties. To review, Ready. Set. WRITE! will kick off on Monday, June 8th with our goals post, followed by updates every Monday thereafter until August 31st. In the meantime, decide what you want to write/revise. Set goals. Write a little. Or a lot. Spread the word! And be prepared to Ready. Set. WRITE!

I’m so glad you’re all running RSW again this year! It’s so hard to write during the summer holidays and RSW is just what I need. I got so much done last time I did it. I’m definitely signing up 🙂

As a long time ROW80 member here, I know exactly what you mean by accountability working. And summer is a hard place to maintain the optimism to keep producing… so yes! another challenge that works on personal goals as opposed to an arbitrary number (though I like those too).

  3. Carrie-Anne says:

I’m really looking forward to participating, since I’m hoping to finish my four-book rewriting/restructuring project by the end of summer and then get back full-time to my alternative history. Once I’ve made my first goal, I’m rewarding myself by getting my fourth lobes pierced.

I really need to get some writing done–I haven’t done any since my Fiction Writing class last quarter, and I was not satisfied with what I wrote for the story that is my main focus–so COUNT ME IN!

    • Katy Upperman says:

Yay, Rachel! I’m so glad you’re joining us. Seriously, I’ve gotten SO MUCH done thanks to RSW in the past. You’ll rock that project. Can’t wait to write with you this summer!

  5. Eve says:

I am planning to participate! I’m nervous and a first time participant but I want to give it a try. I love the concept and think it will really push me to stick to it and not be as easily distracted by holding myself accountable (and the interweb) but also spreading happiness and good thoughts around just sounds like it will be so much fun!

    • Katy Upperman says:

Eve, you’ll do awesome! The goal-setting is all up to you, and our job is encouragement. I bet you’ll be shocked at how productive you are, and how many cool people you meet. So looking forward to writing with you!
