I saw a fun “Currently…” blog idea last week in a post by Kate Hart (she snagged the idea from Amy Lukavics who picked it up here), and then I saw it again yesterday in a post by Jessica Love. So, I thought it’d be fun to jump on the “Currently…” band wagon and give you a little update as to what I’m up to…
Loving…
Fruit smoothies: A handful of frozen strawberries, a handful of frozen blueberries, half a banana, about a cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and about a tablespoon of sugar-free, fat-free dry vanilla pudding mix, all combined with an immersion blender. Such a yummy, healthy breakfast!
Reading…
Ashfall by Mike Mullin… It’s a one of those nightmarish THIS COULD REALLY HAPPEN stories about the eruption of a super volcano and its aftermath.
Watching…
Breaking Bad. My husband and I are halfway through the third season (thank you, Netflix!) and head-over-heels in love. If you’re not watching, you should be. Best show on TV, hands down.
Thinking about…
My revision. Always. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel!
Anticipating…
The end of this revision round. Also, the trip to Washington I’m taking next week. I’m going to a Tim McGraw concert, guys. SO EXCITED!
Wishing…
That revisions were easier. Man… One tiny tweak in an early chapter has a funny way of snowballing into an avalanche of change that escalates with every chapter that follows. I guess the fact that this is challenging and all-consuming means I might be doing it well. Right? RIGHT?!
Making me happy…
My family, particularly these three adorable girls. Love them!
What’s currently making you happy?
“One tiny tweak in an early chapter has a funny way of snowballing into an avalanche of change that escalates with every chapter that follows.” << Oh, I know … and I hate it lol
That pic is sooo cute! Your kiddo looks so happy! =)
Thanks, Juliana! And I’m glad others can relate to my revision avalanche. Sometimes it seems never ending!
Good luck with your revision 🙂 And have fun at the concert!
Thanks, lady… Can’t wait to see Tim. He’s my absolute favorite!
Ooh, that smoothie sounds yummy! And you are so right about revisions snowballing. It’s easy to miss the small references to things that changed in later chapters! It looks like you are enjoying California life!
You should definitely try the smoothie… So delish! I find comfort in the fact that you can relate to the revision snowball. It really feels never-ending sometimes!
Aww…love that pic of what’s making you currently happy and it reminds me of what made me smile yesterday – my cat managed to sneak out way earlier than usual in the morning and was there to greet the kids walking into the elementary school across the street. He basked in the attention, then followed them inside, where he spent all morning keeping a kindergarten class company. My husband and I missed the initial call the school placed to us when they saw the cat’s collar, but it didn’t seem to matter; they were sad when I came over to get him. He’s a charming little guy 🙂
Oh my goodness… Cutest story ever, and I’m not even a cat person! Sounds like your little guys is gaining quite a follower in your neighborhood. 🙂
I am obsessed with Breaking Bad–husband and I watched the first 4 seasons last year and just finished Season 5 (as it aired). The writing on that show–best examples of tension I’ve ever seen!
That smoothie sounds pretty fantastic; I might have to try it out.
Continued good luck with the revision and have a fun trip!
Re: Breaking Bad… YES. The writing is amazing, and the characters are so fantastically fleshed out, yet they’re unpredictable at the same time. I love that I never know what to expect. (Sometimes I even find myself talking like Jesse, yo.)
Great post idea, Katy! I might have to borrow it… I hear you on the revisions thing, and the snowballing thing. I’ve been revising my main WiP for some time, and have been receiving great feedback on it (but that also requires more tweaking). It just sometimes feels a little neverending, doesn’t it?
So many people have raved about Breaking Bad and I think it’s maybe time to take the plunge. 🙂
Yes, definitely check out Breaking Bad, Jaime. It’s amazing! Awesome writing and the characters… Even the deplorable ones are relateable. Good luck with the revision. I know what you mean about that never-ending feeling. YES!
I’m happy because my son loves kindergarten! It’s great to know that he enjoys school–and I feel a little less sad about how quickly he’s growing up. 🙂
Fun post. I think I’ll be borrowing the idea soon. 🙂
Aww, sweet! My girlie is loving kindergarten too, and you’re right. Their happiness makes the whole transition so much easier. Hope it continues to go well from him. Can’t wait to check out your own Currently… post. 🙂
I’m still in the first season, but Breaking Bad is ridiculous good!
Right?! So, so good! Some of the best writing I’ve encountered on TV. In my opinion, only Dexter and Six Feet Under compare.
I am OBSESSED with Breaking Bad. I started watching on Netflix too and finally caught up so that I was able to watch the most recent season live. Amazing show! I can’t wait to watch the rest of the series when it’s back on TV.
Isn’t it fantastic?! The writing is so, so good, and I’ve learned a lot about character motivation and tension from watching it. I love how every episode leaves me shocked and wanting more!
I love seeing your pictures! Also, I’ve had some of those snowballs with CM. And that’s probably why my ms is SO FREAKING LONG. But good luck. I want to read these changes!
Also, Alison doesn’t watch much TV, but she might have to check out Breaking Bad. Have a great week!
Alison, you must check out Breaking Bad! It is ridiculously good! And I’d love to email you the changes I’ve made to CMH… Maybe by the end of the week? Thanks, lovely!
Ah Breaking Bad! My sister is hooked on that. We just started watching The Walking Dead and are trying to get caught up before the new season starts. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
Love that pic of your girl and the pups! So cute! And good luck with revisions! You’ve got this. 🙂
Thanks, lady!
I’ve only seen the first season of The Walking Dead, and I was entertained. Breaking Bad is far superior to any other show I’ve seen on network TV, though. So, so good!
I’ve experienced the avalanche, also. Enjoy Tim McGraw and your trip to Washington!
Thanks, Kirsten! We’re looking forward to it!
Ooh, good call on the pudding mix in your smoothie! I’m going to try that!
It’s so yummy, Jess. The pudding makes the smoothie creamy, like a milkshake, without any ice cream at all. Delish!
I love this idea! I will probably steal it from you and Jessica! 🙂
You totally should, Alexandra! Can’t wait to check it out. 🙂
I will probably end up stealing this idea as well! Your breakfast smoothie sounds delicious! Good luck on your revisions!!
Thanks, Tameka! I look forward to reading your “Currently…” post! 🙂
Love hearing how you are doing, Katy! And I think I am definitely going to steal that smoothie tip – I never thought to use pudding. We are huge smoothie fans over here 🙂 I also know exactly what you mean about the revision avalanche – it’s incredible (and a bit frustrating!) how one change can spark a whole bunch of new changes, BUT it’s also exciting how one small change can maybe add that element that’s been waiting to be discovered. So excited for you about the Tim McGraw concert – that sounds like so much fun, and probably great to get back to Washington for a bit. Happy writing today, Katy!
Thanks, Tem! I hope your revising is going well, and I can wait to hear what’s going on with my very favorite MG WiP (maybe you know the one? ;)). Have a great weekend with your hubby and your beautiful girls!
