Debut Author Challenge

I mentioned on Friday that I’m all signed up for the 2013 Debut Author Challenge. Just to make it officially official in my head, I compiled a list of twelve 2013 debut releases I plan to read over the course of the year. Here they are, with each cover linking to the book’s Goodreads page (release dates are subject to change, of course).

The Madman's Daughter (The Madman's Daughter, #1)The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd, January 29th

Infinite SkyInfinite Sky by C.J. Flood, February 14th (I adore this cover!)

Pretty Girl-13Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley, March 19th

Taken (Taken, #1)Taken by Erin Bowman, April 16th (This cover too… Loveliness!)

The Neptune ProjectThe Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke, May 21st

Charm & StrangeCharm and Strange by Stephanie Kuehn, June 11th

45 Pounds (More or Less)45 Pounds (More or Less) by K.A. Barson, July 11th

CanaryCanary by Rachel Alpine, August 1st (I think this cover rocks too!)

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Between, #1)Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Gemevieve Tucholke, August 20th (And this cover… Gorgeous!)

RedRed by Alison Cherry, October 8th

Fault LineFault Line by Christa Desir, November 12th

These Broken StarsThese Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, November 12th (Not the official cover, obviously.)

Incidentally, I’ve had the pleasure of reading two advanced copies of 2013 debuts: Kristin Halbrook’s Nobody But Us, and Emily Murdoch’s If You Find Me. They are both fantastic, and I highly recommend adding them to your own list of 2013 debut novels. And if you’re looking for more 2013 debuts, check out the Meet the Lucky 13s page for tons of titles, authors, and links.

Tell Me: What 2013 debuts are you most looking forward to?Β

Having read DEVIL, I think you’ll really enjoy it, Katy. April’s writing is so smooth and the entire book is creeptastic. Same goes for MADAMAN’S, actually. I’m looking forward to all of these myself–great roundup.

(And eee! TAKEN. I’m so excited/anxious/terrified for you to read! Thanks for including it in your DAC list!!)

Um, OF COURSE Taken is on my 2013 debut list. Honestly, if I had all twelve books in front of me right now, I’d choose Taken to read first. And not just because I adore the author. πŸ™‚

I can’t wait for IF YOU FIND ME, NOBODY BUT US, and LANDRY PARK (which is a dystopian Gone with the Wind type thing). I’m also looking forward to INFINITE SKY, RED and BETWEEN THE DEEP BLUE SEA AND THE DEVIL. Then I always mix up 14ers books and think they come out this year too-LOL!!!

Great list! I was looking for a few more to add to mine. I just need 2 more! I’m most looking forward to Taken. Also excited to read Red, now that I heard about it from your list. I love the cover for These Broken Stars.

  4. Elodie says:

So excited for all those books to come out! As I told you IΒ΄ve started IF YOU FIND ME and IΒ΄m really into it already. IΒ΄m doing the challenge too…I need to post the books I am planning to read soon! πŸ˜€

    • katyupperman says:

I actually decided to do the challenge after I saw that you were, Elodie. πŸ™‚ I always try to read lots of debut author’s books, but I thought it’d be more fun to make it official this year. Thanks for the inspiration! And definitely let me know what you think of IF YOU FIND ME when you finish.

I’m scribbling down your list–these are some awesome debuts and I would love to read them. I hope to read a lot more debuts in 2013, too! (I almost typed 2012. My head is not in this year yet πŸ˜‰ )

    • katyupperman says:

Mine isn’t either, Rebecca! Maybe when we start reading all of these fantastic 2013 debuts, our minds will start to accept that it’s a new year. πŸ™‚

  6. Nicole McLaughlin says:

Good stuff. I need about four more hours in the day to read all the books I want to read. The bad and awesome thing about books…is that more just keep coming out! πŸ™‚

    • katyupperman says:

Seriously. If I could add just ONE hour a day set aside only for reading, I’d pretty much be the happiest girl ever. πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to hear about the 2013 debuts you read, Nicole!

    • katyupperman says:

Right?! I’ve skimmed over this post about a dozen times, just to see all the pretty covers again. I can’t wait to see them lining my bookshelves. πŸ™‚

    • katyupperman says:

I saw your list today, Liz… So many great picks! I ordered two debuts today (THE TRAGEDY PAPER and THE MAD MAN’S DAUGHTER). Can’t wait to read them both!

Ok, there are too many people I know doing this and too many debut releases that look good. Against the wishes of my buckling bookshelves and neglected TBR pile, I think I’m gonna do this. It’s so exciting to start seeing names of bloggers I’ve been following
