One Word Wednesday

Today is my birthday!
Let’s celebrate with some pretty pictures, shall we? (Incidentally, if you’re on Instagram and we’re not following each other, lets! You can find me HERE. :))

Sunshine
{We had the most beautiful warm weather this last Friday. Obviously my little twirler enjoyed it! (Also, I don’t usually think my daughter looks like me, but something about this image makes me think of pictures my parents have of me when I was five years old.)}

Vacation
{My husband surprised my girlie and me with a weekend getaway to San Francisco. Though we’ve driven through the city many times, we’ve never taken the time to truly explore it. I’m so thankful we had the opportunity to finally check out the sights… San Francisco is beautiful!}

Smiles
{Hanging out at Coit Tower.}

Delectable
{We ate way too much yummy food, just as you’re supposed to when you’re getting to know a new city.}

Vibrant
{Animators’ paints at the Walt Disney Family Museum, which was amazing. I’m a bit of a Disney fanatic so I was totally in my element, but even my husband and girlie had a good time. Walt Disney and his legacy have always been such an inspiration to me. (Also, if you’re a military family there’s no admission fee… Awesome. Thank you, Walt Disney Family Museum!)}

Sightseers
{We were pretty shameless about flashing our tourist cards throughout the city. Pictures were taken at all the major landmarks. Here, Alcatraz from a distance, as well as The Palace of Fine Arts.}

Reflection
{Family portrait. Sort of. (This was taken at the Baker Street Bistro, which was warm and quaint and presented us with a very tasty lunch.)}

Decadent
{Nothing to do with San Francisco, but when we got home I tried a new recipe: Flourless Chocolate Cake. Oh my goodness… This dessert was fantastic. Moist and rich and so chocolate-y — like the inside of a truffle. Yum!}

So, that’s what I’ve been up to these last few days. Today I’m treating myself to a little vegging… I’m finally going to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Then, it’s all about reading through an old manuscript and making notes about my vision for revamping it. A little intimidating, but I’m excited to improve upon a story I already love.

What are you working on this week?

    Happy birthday! It looks like it was a memorable one. I haven’t been to San Fran in a couple years (also in February!), but I’d like to go back, although it was freezing when I went. I hope it was warm for you.

    I’m on Instagram but I never use it. Can’t remember my password, and just haven’t bothered to look it up. But your pictures are lovely and makes it seem worth the search.

    Happy birthday!!! Why are so many awesome people born in February? 😉 (Okay, I’m biased, but I *do* have a lot of February-born friends…)

    Looks like you had a lovely time in San Fran with the fam! Good luck with the old ms revisions, but don’t work too hard on it today. You deserve birthday cake and lazy times and maybe a celebratory drink or two!

    Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a fabulous day.
    And how did I not know that there is a Disney museum? (Also a fanatic)
    In-between revising I’ve been revamping an old MS–it is intimidating, but it’s also kind of invigorating to see how much I’ve grown from the last time I worked on it.

      The Disney museum is relatively new, Rebecca. Apparently one of his daughters heads it up. It’s very cool! I’m excited to get going on my revision, but I just got a new computer (a Mac… yay!) and now I want to learn Scrivner before I really start revamping. Any advice you want to share is more than welcome. 🙂

    Happy birthday, Katy!! So happy to celebrate the birthday of such an amazing person, friend, and super talented writer. Just, HUGS. Also, love seeing all of your pictures from San Francisco – it really makes me want to visit! I definitely think me and my family need to work on the driving up the coast trip (with a stop in central California, of course!). I also am a HUGE Disney fan too! I went there so much as a kid and truly feel like so much of my imagination was inspired there. I also am sort of drooling over that chocolate cake, yum! I hope your day is everything wonderful, Katy!

      Aww, Tem, thank you so, so much! You are the sweetest! I strongly encourage you and your family to make a trip north very soon, and we’d love to have you make our town one of your stopovers… How fun would that be?!

    First of all: Happy Birthday! Have a really great day, because you deserve it. 🙂

    Love that family portrait, BTW. At first I didn’t see you in the mirror. I thought it was a group of people sitting behind your husband and daughter. What a nifty idea! San Francisco looks wonderful just like I always thought it would be. It’s one of those places on my list to visit at some point.

    It’s still morning, but I’m already drooling over that yummy-looking cake. I might have to give that one a try. 🙂

    • katyupperman says:

      Like I told Jen, that chocolate cake calls for EIGHT eggs, so I think you can safely consider it a breakfast food. 🙂 And thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Jaime. So far it’s be a great day!

      Did you, Rachel? I’m not really a city person, but I was just telling my husband that if I did ever decide to live in a city, San Francisco might be it. We loved it!

  6. Jessica Silverstein says:

    Happy birthday! Good for you taking some time to relax and read 🙂 That chocolate cake looks unbelievably good–I love seeing your baking projects! As always, this one is now on my list to try 🙂

      Thanks so much! Surprise, surprise… I haven’t gotten around to watching PERKS yet. It’s so hard for me to sit still long enough to watch a movie — even one I really want to see!

    • katyupperman says:

      We did see lots of the sights, but next time I need to make it to Alcatraz (sold out last weekend) and Ghirardelli Square (yum!). And thank you so much for the birthday wishes! ❤

    HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY!!!! Thank you for letting us share in your life a little bit, picture by picture. It looks like your last few days were a blast. I have only ever been to L.A. in California (twice! once I stayed with a “famous” family LOL, my friend’s dad is a producer of the Olympics) but my mom raves about San Fran (my cousin lives there) and I have a beta reader from Nor Cal. One day I will go back yes? Again HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! May your year be sweet, healthy and happy. ❤

  8. Elodie says:

    So I just realized I wished you a Happy birthday on Twitter and Facebook but NOT on your blog!!! Shame on me ❤
    Hope your day was amazing Katy! Love the pictures and it looks like you a had a great time in San Francisco!
