One Word Wednesday

Happy
{That’s the smile of a kid who’s halfway through her second week of spring break. We’ve had all kinds of fun so far – treats and movies and kayaking and the park, plus a week-long visit with her grandparents, Mimi and Baba. Fun!}

Tedious
{Oh, look… I’m rewriting again. A different story now, one that’s full of characters I love and just can’t give up on. This manuscript had a plot that just wasn’t marketable enough, so I’m giving it a big ol’ facelift. I’m “done” rewriting about half the story, but it’s the back half that’s going to be most troublesome. Good thing Costco sells Jelly Bellies in bulk!}

Yum
{My husband and I have been doing the no-carb thing for awhile now, and it’s becoming harder and harder to come up with tasty and unique dinners that don’t include a bunch of bread/rice/pasta/potatoes. The other night I had a moment of inspiration and made what were essentially a crab cakes (sans bread crumbs). I  packed the mixture into portobello mushroom caps and baked it all in the oven. Even my girlie was a fan. Win!}

Awesome
{Yesterday we went whale watching, which was the coolest. We saw humpback whales (there’s a tail barely visible in the lower right corner of the above image), grey whales, sea lions, and tons of dolphins. The best part? I doubled up on Dramamine and didn’t feel the slightest bit seasick!}

Love
{We’ve been having a bit of a stay-cation over the last few days thanks to my visiting in-laws. It’s been so fun to hang in our town like tourists, and we’ve had a blast showing Mimi and Baba all the cool things the Monterey Bay area has to offer. Above is evidence of our trip down 17-Mile Drive.}

Tell me: What’s been the best part of your week so far?

    Check out vegan recipes for some no/low carb ideas. My vegan BFF makes some of the yummiest dishes for her family and she’s passed on some recipes to me. Since I’m like a shark that eats everything, I just modify (adding meat, etc.)

    I’m about to start revisions in a few days and already I’m certain I’ll need major work on the ending. I LOVE the beginning, but the end just feels *off* somehow.

    Love all of this, Katy! Wow – I am, admittedly, a major carb girl, and I was blown away by the deliciousness of that crab cake, yum. So happy you’ve been having such a wonderful time with your family, there’s no better way to spend spring break, plus the gorgeousness of the ocean is breathtaking! Also, very glad that you avoided sea sickness and tell your sweet girlie I love her Star Wars shirt!! Thanks for sharing with us ❤

      Oh, I am a total carb girl too, Tem! It’s been a challenge to avoid them, but I do feel better, generally. I also cheat on Saturdays. 😉 I’ve been thinking of you (and I totally owe you an email!). I hope all is going well with… everything. 🙂

    Once again, I have to say how much I’d love to live somewhere that gorgeous. I’m so envious! Love your girlie’s geeky Star Wars shirt. You’ve raised her well. 🙂 I’ve never done a rewrite on a story, but I can imagine how much work it must be, trying to decide what to keep and what to change. Yikes! Good luck with it, Katy, and enjoy the Jelly Bellies. 🙂

      Oh, I’m enjoying more than my fair share of Jelly Bellies.

      My daughter is such a little nerd in training… She loves all things Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, as well as American Girl and Barbie. Well rounded. 😉

      I hope your spring weather is finally turning spring-ish. You’re welcome to visit California anytime!

    Carbs are the bane of my existence, but I just don’t have the willpower to give them up. That crab stuffed mushroom looks delicious though! Good luck with the face lift on your manuscript. Jelly Bellies sounds like great writing fuel. 🙂

    *raises the Star Wars flag* HOLLA!!!! *waves pom poms* Go, Katy, go! Work those revisions. That crab cake looks delish. I can’t wait til we have weather like you do in your pictures and hope you are enjoying the in-laws! 🙂 Have a great weekend.

    I absolutely LOVE Claire’s shirt! Yes to converting children into Star Wars fans! 🙂 And I love the pics – as always. One of these years I’m going to have to get out your way – the pictures are GORGEOUS.

    Oh – and the best part of my week will be 2:15 today – when spring break officially begins. Yay!
