#WriterRecharge {Update Three}

Writer Recharge

Writer Recharge is a month-long motivational challenge similar to last summer’s Ready. Set. Write! So many of us benefited from setting goals, connecting with other writers, and social media-based accountability. So, let’s do it again! Whether you’re delighting next to the crackling fireplace of a Shiny New Idea with a warm cup of tea and or spinning out on the ice-covered roads of revisions in an attempt to avoid the snow-packed ditch, we want to write with you! Learn more HERE

First, a confession: If I hadn’t started watching Friday Night Lights a couple of weeks ago, I’d probably be completely done with this draft of my WiP, Good Girls. I’ve spent several nights hanging with the Dillon gang when I should’ve been revising. But, I’ve still made some really awesome progress, and let’s face it: Tim Riggins is an incredibly worthy distraction.

~ AHEM ~

On Friday, I finished my Cut All the Crap revision round, reassessed my To-Do list (two full pages), and then dove right back in. Now, I’m about a 1/3 of the way done fixing the issues I’m aware of and polishing further. Guys, I’m getting excited! This thing is almost ready for readers, and I’m still thinking it’s got great potential. I can’t wait to see what sort of feedback I get from my brilliant CPs, and I can’t wait to apply their expertise to my future drafts.

Until then, I’ll be pushing hard to meet my goal of having a readable draft ready for readers on Friday. *crosses fingers* *guzzles coffee* *buys Jelly Bellies*

How’s #WriterRecharge going for you?

  2. Aaaaah, having a readable draft is soooo exciting! Can’t wait to get there myself. You’re reminding me it’s doable though, so thank you! Best of luck polishing it up this week!

    • Glad I could serve as a reminder, Kip. I’ve been working on this WiP for almost a year now, and it feels pretty amazing (and terrifying!) to know that it’s nearly ready for readers. Hope your week went well. Looking forward to checking in!

  3. Clearly, I need to check out FNL…:-) And yay for making progress! I know it has amazing potential and I can´t wait to read 🙂

  4. Fingers crossed for you! And don’t feel bad about the TV distraction. I spent like two hours yesterday zoned out on The Family Feud and it didn’t even have Tim Riggins.

    • Ha! I’ve had days like that, days that just disappear into TV viewing. Not often, because I usually don’t even turn our TV on, but yeah… FNL is pretty freaking addictive. Hope your writing’s going well, Jennifer. I’m looking forward to checking in to your blog. 🙂

  5. Yay! Well done for making such good progress, Katy–despite distractions! 🙂 I look forward to your end-of-challenge update celebrating the completion of the novel, and anticipating CP comments. 🙂

FNL is a good show to watch as a YA writer. I was really inspired by it and made some changes on a novel I was working on at the time based on the show. Just seeing how the characters interact and the sports angle, mostly. I’m not a sports person and yet I was writing characters who were into sports, so it helped!

May the Motivation Fairy visit you this week and aid you in your goals!

    • Thanks, Stephanie, and I totally agree. FNL is a “sports show” but it’s also super character-driven, which is what I love about it. Those are the kinds of stories I write, too, so I’m finding it very inspirational. Hope you’re getting lots done!

  7. hubba-hubba, Riggins is such a distraction. Well worth it, though! It’s awesome that you’re getting excited. Getting rid of the extras definitely helps motivate and inspire 🙂

  8. Tim Riggins. Swoon!

  9. Scary times when it’s getting ready for readers but it’s great that your at that stage now! Hope you get the feedback you need!

  10. That’s so cool that you’re almost ready for readers, even with all those very legit distractions.

  11. Riggins???? No way….the COACH is the hot one 🙂 vavavoom! good luck this week!

  12. I haven’t seen FNL’s! I know! *hides* But I want to! Good luck next week 🙂

  15. My boss brought jelly bellies into work yesterday, and I thought of you. 🙂 I’ve had so much fun writing with you this month! Can’t wait to see where your current project goes. If you need a reader, you know where to find me. Thank you so much for all of your encouragement, too. You’re basically the best.

    • Aww, I’m so glad people think of me when they’re enjoying my favorite treat. I feel very accomplished. 🙂 And thank you so much for your offer to read. I might just have to take you up on that!
