Currently…

(I plan to do a “Currently” post every other Tuesday, and I think y’all should join me… Find the origins of the idea HERE.)

Currently

Loving

This (incredibly easy) Chocolate Cake recipe. My favorite (free!) yoga videos: Yoga With Adriene. Washi tape — I am officially obsessed. Pura Vida bracelets. This fantastic “beYOUtiful raglan t-shirt,” of which 1/4 of the price is donated to First Descents, providing free adventure experiences for cancer fighters and survivors. And a recent Pub(lishing) Crawl post by Erin Bowman, all about how to support authors before, during, and after release day.

Reading

Jessica Park’s Flat-Out Love (NA at its most adorable), and Laura Ruby’s Bone Gap (one of the weirdest, most beautifully written books I’ve read in a long time). These two stories couldn’t be more different, but I loved them both, particularly Bone Gap — pure magic. Now, I’ve started All the Rage by one of my favorite authors, Courtney Summers. More about this recent release soon!

Watching

Guys, I finished Gossip Girl! I thought the series finale was quite satisfying — though I wanted more Chuck and Blair (always). I’ve just finished watching the first season of The CW’s The 100 which, as promised by many, has drastically improved since its fist few episodes. It definitely has its cheese-tastic moments, but it also has enough twists and romance to hold my attention. So far, so good. Hurry up and make season 2 available, Netflix!

Listening To

Echosmith‘s Bright, which is so damn cute. It’s the perfect theme song for my WiP, Stars Like Dust, too.

Thinking About

My Shiny New Idea! It’s in its very earliest brainstorming stages, but I’m *really* excited about it. I was at the dentist a few weeks ago and during my cleaning, two songs from the same movie soundtrack played — one of my favorite movies. I was suddenly super inspired, and I’ve been stewing over plot-ish things ever since. I’ve named my main characters, and I’ve made a mood board that’s now my computer’s desktop –> progress!

Anticipating

I can’t wait to randomly select the winner of my 5 Year Blog-iversary Giveaway! I’ve got YA books, notecards, a travel mug and Jelly Bellies up for grabs. If you haven’t already, enter HERE. The giveaway closes this Thursday, April 23rd at midnight, and is open internationally. Good luck!

Wishing

That the people who picked up the novels my daughter and I left around our community during last week’s Rock the Drop will love the stories they scored!

Making Me Happy

My family, always. ❤

Naming characters is a good start. Mine frequently go for 10k or more before I can give them a definite name ^^; May the shiny new project be your greatest yet!

    • Katy Upperman says:

I’m impressed that you can begin drafting without character names, Cole. I at least need names for my main players, otherwise I have a hard time nailing down who they are. Thanks for your support, as usual… I hope you have a most excellent week!

  2. Jennifer Pickrell says:

    Yay for shiny new ideas!

I checked out the Yoga with Adriene link and LOVE 30 day challenges; I think I’ll incorporate some of her videos into my regular routine. Right now I’m completely obsessed with Cassey Ho’s Blogilates channel – her arm routines are KILLER.

I’ve heard good buzz (sorry, couldn’t resist b/c of the cover) about BONE GAP.

Have fun brainstorming your new idea 🙂

    • Katy Upperman says:

Okay, I’m going to check out Cassey Ho’s Blogilates channel. Sounds fun — and brutal. 🙂 And yes, BONE GAP is aMaZiNg. You should totally read it, Jennifer!

  3. Alison Miller says:

I AM SO EXCITED about your SNI!!! I keep hearing songs from that movie and I think… SIGN. 🙂 And I am about to order ALL THE RAGE. I LOVE me some Courtney Summers! Have a great week, friend! And happy blogiversary!

    • Katy Upperman says:

Courtney Summers is fantastic, right? I feel like she’s starting to get more and more recognition, which makes me so happy. She’s been tragically underrated over the last few years, yet her books never fail to gut me. And yay for signs! 😉

  4. Jaime Morrow says:

Thanks for reviving the Currently post, Katy! Every couple of weeks feels so much more manageable. And, hey, I’m thinking there should be a planner sticker for that. 😉

I really enjoyed BONE GAP in the end too. At first I was sort of put off by the oddness of it, but the incredible writing and unique story sucked me in. Can’t wait to hear what you think of ALL THE RAGE. I really want to read that one. I *did* pick up a copy of FALL FOR ANYTHING though. ($4! Can’t beat that.)

Someone introduced me to Echosmith awhile back, so I have a few of their songs on my iTunes, including “Bright” which is super adorable and happy. LOVE that it’s your book’s theme song! ☺

    Have a wonderful week, Katy!

    • Katy Upperman says:

Jaime, please create a planner sticker for Currently! I’ll most definitely purchase and make use of it if you do. 🙂 I can’t wait for you to read FALL FOR ANYTHING. I maintain that it’s one of the most subtly brilliant books I’ve ever read. I think Courtney Summers is incredible, and so far, ALL THE RAGE is not disappointing. So glad you’re jumping in on Currently, by the way. Have a great week, lady!

FLAT OUT LOVE is on my TBR now…I read an excerpt and it sounds so fun!

And hooray for Shiny New Idea! I’ve got one of those buzzing around my brain right now, too. Isn’t it the best feeling? All the possibilities…

Have a great week, Katy! (P.S. I’m loving the “Currently” post idea. I’m jumping on this train for sure!)

    • Katy Upperman says:

FLAT OUT LOVE *is* so fun, Kaitlin! It’s wonderfully deep, too, and I just adore the characters. I can’t wait to hear what you think! Best of luck with that SNI you’ve got in mind. Sending you all of the productive brainstorming vibes I can spare. 🙂

  6. Amy Brashear says:

I jumped on the bandwagon for your Currently post idea. Fun. I can’t wait to read Bone Gap. I asked the library to buy it. I’m loving those bracelets. I’m bookmarking to go buy one. I love SNIs. I’ve decided to make my character for my 80s story into comic books, which means I’ve been searching for old 80s comics. Research 😉 I think I want my character to write her own comic books so I’ve enlisted my brother to draw one up for her since he’s great at drawing and I am not. Ha. Have a great week!!!

    • Katy Upperman says:

I bought a few of those bracelets… Hopefully the arrive soon! I love your 80s story idea, Amy. It sounds like tons of fun. Best of luck with it, and keep us posted!

  7. Alice says:

Yay for the return of Currently! You’ve seen my post already & thanks for the comment! I knew you’d be very knowledgeable about road trips. I may need tips in the future!

So looking forward to Bone Gap! It’s been on my TBR since I read the blurb, but I’m even more excited now because of all the good buzz and your (and Tracey’s and Lola’s) recommendation! Also looking forward to ALL THE RAGE.

Yay for shiny new ideas, and that Echosmith song! ❤ (By the by, if you still need eyes for Stars Like Dust, mine are available. 😉 )

    • Katy Upperman says:

I’m happy to share any and all of the road trip knowledge I’ve acquired over the years, Alice. Just let me know if I can help! And I have no doubt that you’ll love BONE GAP — I’m still thinking about it, four days after finishing. Oh, and depending on my agent’s feedback for STARS, I would LOVE to have you read for me. Thank you so much for offering. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back. ❤

  8. Sophia says:

Oh I love Flat-Out Love! Hope you’re enjoying it. I’m glad to hear The 100 improves later on. I started watching it when it first aired over here but wasn’t into it enough to sit down and watch each week. Now it’s on Amazon Prime, so I’ll give it another go. I like the ‘Currently…’ prompts – I might have to join you all one day. There are only so many Top Ten Tuesday posts a girl can do!

    • Katy Upperman says:

I thought FLAT-OUT LOVE was so much fun, Sophia! I read FLAT-OUT MATT, too, and loved it just as much. 🙂 You should definitely join in for a Currently post one of these days. It’d be fun to catch up!

  9. Erin Bowman (@erin_bowman) says:

Duuuuude you are going to love s2 of The 100. I am obsessed with this show–OBSESSED! Agreed, it def has some cheesy moments, but I’m so in love with the diverse cast and complex characters and SO MANY GIRLS KICKING BUTT. Plus, it just keeps getting better and better and grittier and darker and AHH. We must discuss once you’ve caught up on s2.

    • Katy Upperman says:

When I started The 100, I thought there were two season already available on Netflix, so I was just cruising along. Then season 1 ended and I was like WHAT. So, yeah. I’m eager for more butt kicking girls. And I’m definitely down to chat once I get through season 2. Hopefully it releases soon! Have an awesome week, lady!

  10. Kitty says:

Oh man, I loved The 100. After I caught up on season one, I tried to keep up with each new episode as it came out on TV but I just couldn’t make it work. I really need season two on Netflix, too!

I love your story about how your SNI came to be. I am way overdue for the dentist. Maybe I should make that appointment! 🙂

    Have a wonderful week, Katy!
